How Many Pages Does a Passport Have

By pradeep , 6 August 2025

The Indian Passport Department generally issues passports with either 36 or 60 pages. While applying for the passport online, applicants must choose whether they need a 36-page or a 60-page passport. A 36-page passport is sufficient for people who travel occasionally. However, for frequent travellers, a 36-page passport is not worthwhile, as it may require early renewal once the pages are exhausted. Therefore, a 60-page passport is a good choice for such individuals.

Key Details

  • Both the Normal and Tatkal schemes allow applicants to choose between a 36-page or a 60-page passport.
  • A 36-page passport is ideal for occasional travellers, while a 60-page passport is worth it for those who travel frequently.
  • Applicants cannot choose a passport with fewer than 36 pages or more than 60 pages, as such options are not available.
  • The application fee is Rs 1,500 for a 36-page passport and Rs 2,000 for a 60-page passport.
  • Applicants who submitted their application under the Tatkal scheme need to pay an additional fee of Rs 2,000, irrespective of the number of pages selected.
