A passport is an official document issued by the government of a country to its citizens. It is primarily required for international travel and also serves as proof of a person's identity and citizenship.

Usage of a passport

  • A passport is essential for foreign travel; without it, you cannot visit other countries.
  • To travel abroad, an applicant must first obtain a valid passport and then a visa for that country.
  • A passport also serves as a valid proof of citizenship and identity.

Eligibility for a Passport

  • Any Indian citizen of any age can apply for a passport.
  • They are eligible for either an ECR (generally issued to those whose educational qualification is below 10th) or a Non-ECR Passport (issued to those with higher education)

To get a passport, one must apply online through the Passport Seva Portal
After document verification at the Passport Office and successful Police Verification, the passport is issued.
