Police Verification for Passport in India
- The police verification process for an Indian passport in India is an important process.
- During the process, local police visit the applicant's given address to verify their identity, address, and background, and also to check for any criminal records.
- The Police also confirms whether the person is alive or dead, or someone else is trying to obtain a passport fraudulently.
- This process ensures that the applicant has no past or present criminal record and resides at the mentioned address.
Police Verification Process
Note: The Police Verification process is the same as for Passport and Police Clearance Certificate.
- Submission of application form at the passport office:-
- After completing the biometric and document verification at the passport office, the police verification process begins.
- An email regarding the initiation of a police verification request is sent to the applicant's registered email address.
- Verification request sent to police:-
- In the police verification process, the passport officer sends the applicant's request direct to the Senior Superintendent of Police, who then forwards it to the LIU (Local Intelligence Unit) / or the relevant Police Station.
- Regarding this, the applicant is also informed by email.
- Investigation by LIU Police Officer:-
- LIU (Local Intelligence Unit) Police contact the applicant and inform them that they are visiting for the verification process.
- The officer then visits the applicant's address to verify their documents, identity, and criminal backgrounds.
- Report prepared by LIU police officer:-
- After the verification, the LIU officer submits the report to the RPO (Regional Passport Office).
- If the report is positive, the Regional Passport Officer initiates the request for the printing of a passport.
- If the report is negative, the Regional Passport Officer stops passport printing until the applicant visits the RPO (Regional Passport Office) with a valid reason. After clarification, the LIU again conducts the police verification process.
