Regional Passport Office (RPO)

• RPO in Passport is a government office that handles all passport related work for the citizens of a specific region.
• This office solves all types of passport related problems or complaints and resolves the problems and complaints of the citizens from time to time.
• They are responsible for functions like issuing passports, renewing existing passports, police verification and checking personal details.
• These are around 37 major RPOs in India, located in different states and cities of the country – like Delhi, Dehradun, etc.

Functions of RPO (Regional Passport Office)

• Passport Checking /Passport Printing & Delivery
  • RPO ( Regional Passport Office) checks the quality of your passport.
  • When the police verification of the passport applicant is successful then the RPO gives the order to send the passport for printing.
  • The passport is dispatched to the applicant's address only by order of the RPO.
• Passport Grievance and Correction Redressal
  • If your passport shows RPO hold then for that you have to go to RPO and from there your passport is sent.
  • If your police verification is not clear, then you have to go to RPO with an appointment date from there your problem is solved.
  • If there is any error or miss print in the passport from the passport side then the Regional Passport Office (RPO) resolves it.
  • If there is any delay in the arrival of your passport, you will have to go to the regional passport office to resolve this problem.
  • If there is no clarity in some of your documents in the passport office, then in that case your file is sent to the RPO. Then you have to go to the RPO with an appointment date. And submit your documents again. Then the RPO re-verifies your documents.
  • If you want to close your old passport file, then also you have to go to RPO to close the file. From there, a closure letter is given.
• Resolution of Emergency Cases by RPO
  • RPO resolves emergency cases in passport.
  • In emergency cases of travel abroad, change of date of birth, passport rejection etc. the passport file is sent to the RPO and the RPO takes quick decision in these cases.

In which cases is the passport file sent to RPO?

• If the police verification is not successful, the file goes to the RPO (Regional Passport Office).
• In case of lost passportthe file goes to RPO (Regional Passport Office).
• On arrival from a foreign trip with an emergency certificate ,
• on divorce cases
• ECR(Emigration Check Required) in Passport upon removal of Passport.
• On change of date of birth,
• on the affairs of Tibetans,
• In case of change in the name of mother or father etc.
