What Should I Do If My Passport Application Is Put On Hold or Rejected?
Know the reason?
- If your passport application is pending or rejected, the first step is to understand the reason why your application was rejected or put on hold.
- You can also check the status of your passport application online through the Passport Seva Portal.
📄For document-related issues
- If your application is held at the passport office due to document-related issues, such as missing documents or incorrect documents, you need to book a new appointment.
- After correcting the documents, you have to resubmit them at the Passport Seva Kendra.
- Once the document verification is completed from the Passport, the police verification process will begin.
- If your passport is held at the passport office, you must schedule a new appointment and visit again.
👮 Police Verification Issues
- If your police verification process fails, or if you have provided incorrect information or an address that has put your passport application on hold, you must first book a new appointment with the Regional Passport Office (RPO). At RPO, you need to explain the reason why your police report is negative.
- After this, your police verification process will be conducted again.
✅If the Regional Passport Office hold the file
In most cases, the passport applications are held at the Regional Passport Office (RPO) because it conducts the final verification. The RPO holds the authority to make the final decision, and you need to visit the Regional Passport Office. At RPO, the application is held due to the following reasons: -
- Due to any criminal cases or pending court cases.
- If Police Verification fails.
- Lost passport cases.
- Removing ECR status from the passport.
- If travelling using an Emergency Certificate (EC), Divorce cases, Tibetan-related cases, Changes in parents' names, Corrections in date of birth, etc.
✅General suggestion
- If your passport application is held at RPO, you must visit the office.
- Any emergency cases related to passports are resolved by the RPO.
