Passport applications can generally be submitted under two categories: Normal (General) and Tatkal. Applications submitted under the Normal category usually take more time to process, while the Tatkal service ensures the quickest passport issuance. The Tatkal service can be used for various purposes, including applying for a new passport, renewing the existing one or availing of other services.

Tatkal Passport

  • The appointment date is scheduled quickly under this scheme.
  • The passport is issued in a quick interval of time.
  • Applicants can only apply once they have fulfilled all the conditions of the Tatkal scheme.

Fees

  • To avail of the Tatkal Seva, applicants need to pay an additional fee of Rs 2,000 (excluding the application fees).
  • Including the application fee, the total cost of each application is Rs 3,500/-.

Documents

  • While applying under the Tatkal scheme, applicants must submit a few documents: -
    • Three identity proofs (make sure these IDs have similar details, like father's name, date of birth, and address).
    • 10th certificate (as proof of birth or Non-ECR).
    • Marriage certificate (if required).
    • Others documents as requested.

Note: Married applicants who do not have a marriage certificate must submit the Annexure J form.

🌐 Process to fill Tatkal Passport online

  • Visit Passport Seva Portal.
  • Register (if not registered) and log in with the details.
  • Enter the personal and family details.
  • Pay the Application Fee.
  • Choose the Passport office and schedule an appointment.
  • Visit Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) on the scheduled date with all documents.
  • Tatkal undertaking form and an application form has to be filled (available at PSK)
  • Officials will verify your documents.
  • After documentation, police verification will be conducted.
  • After this, a passport is issued to applicants, which will be delivered to their address via Speed Post.

🕐 Time in tatkal passport

  • The appointment time for a Tatkal passport depends on the available slots at the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK).
  • Police verification takes about 3 to 4 days, and after the police verification process, it takes around 7 to 8 days for the passport to be issued
  • Under the Tatkal scheme, passports are generally issued within 10 to 15 days from the date of application.
