Name Change Ad Procedure in Newspaper for Passport

• If you want to change or update your name in your current passport, you need to follow a procedure.
• First, you must issue a public notice in your local newspaper regarding the name change, which is called a "Public Notice of Name Change".
• The Indian government has made it mandatory to issue such a public notice if you wish to change your name due to marriage, divorce, religious conversion, or any other reason.

Required important additional documents

• Along with other requisite documents, applicants must provide the following documents for a name change.
  • An affidavit issued by the court,and
  • A newspaper advertisement.
  • A gazette notification (for government employees)

How to issue a Public Notice in a newspaper?

• To publish a newspaper advertisement, you must first obtain the affidavit from the court.
• Based on this affidavit, you can then issue a public notice in the newspapers.
• It is important to issue this advertisement in at least two newspapers-
  • One in the National Newspaper (in English)
  • One in the Local Newspaper. (In Local Language)

Note: Some Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) require advertisement in two national newspapers.

Online Application Process

After the issuance of the Name Change advertisement, applicant can apply for the reissue of their passport by following the process given here: -

• Visit Passport Seva Portal.
• Select "Reissue of passport"
• Fill out the application form.
• Pay the applicable fee.
• Book an appointment at your nearest PSK.
• Visit on the appointment date with all your original documents and their photocopies.
• Carry the affidavit and newspaper advertisement.

Note: Applications fora name change cannot be submitted under the Tatkal Scheme.
