To add or change a spouse's name in a passport can be made under the following conditions: -
1️⃣Adding a Spouse Name After Marriage
- Couples who are recently married can update their partner's name in their respective passport.
- To add a spouse's name, the applicant must apply for passport renewal.
- During the online renewal form submission, enter the spouse's name in the respective field.
- Documents required to add spouse's name are: -
- Marriage Certificate.
- Spouse's passport copy.
- In the absence of a Marriage certificate, submit Annexure J.
2️⃣Removing Spouse's Name After Divorce
If divorced, you can remove your spouse's name by applying for passport renewal.
As proof, submit court orders or a divorce decree.
After the completion of the application process, applicants are required to visit the Regional Passport Office (RPO).
3️⃣Remove A Spouse's Name After Death
In case of a spouse's death, you can remove their name from your passport.
As proof, applicants must submit the death certificate of the spouse.
4️⃣Adding a Spouse's Name
- You can add a new spouse's name after removing the previous spouse's name (in case of death or divorce)
- Submit documents for its proof: -
- Spouse Death Certificate or
- Divorce Decree or Court Orders.
- Certificate of new marriage or Annexure J form.
📝Online Application Process
- Visit Passport Seva Portal.
- Register (if not a registered user).
- Select Re-issuance of Passport.
- Select Change in Existing Personal Particulars and choose Spouse name.
- Enter your and your family's details.
- Pay the Fees.
- On the scheduled date, visit the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) with the required documents.
- After document verification, police verification will be conducted.
- Post successful police verification, the passport with the requested changes will be delivered to your doorstep via speed post.
📌Remember
In case of a name change due to divorce or other reasons, applicants must appear at the Regional Passport Office.
