We often make small mistakes while applying for a passport, which can lead to application rejection, rescheduling of appointment after a long wait, or even multiple visits to the passport office- all of which delay the passport process.

Here are some mistakes applicants usually make during the passport application process.

❌ Submitting Incorrect or Mismatched Documents

  • Difference in name, date of birth, or parents' name across different documents.
  • Address mismatch, such as an old address in the Aadhaar Card and a new address in the application form.
  • Not sharing the current address if it differs from the permanent address.
  • Submitting old, incorrect or wrong documents.
  • Providing the wrong certificate or annexures.

❌ Providing Wrong or Incomplete Information in the Application Form

  • Selecting the wrong state or RPO during passport registration.
  • Filling a renewal passport application as a fresh application or vice versa.
  • Entering an incorrect name, date of birth, birth place, or parents' name.
  • Mismatch in the spelling between the documents and the application form.
  • Incorrect selection of ECR/Non ECR status.
  • Hiding employment information.

  • Providing an incorrect old passport or file number, or hiding previous passport information.
  • Hiding court or criminal records.
  • Entering the wrong police station name.
  • Providing an incorrect PIN code, mobile number, or email address.

❌Not Submitting Marriage/Divorce/Death Certificate

  • Hiding marital status.
  • Not submitting the marriage certificate or divorce decree.
  • In case of multiple marriages, hiding details of the previous marriage.

❌ Incorrect Emergency Contact Number

  • Submitting an incorrect emergency contact number or email may stall the application process.

❌Mistakes During Police Verification

  • Submitted an incorrect address.
  • Having undisclosed criminal matters.
  • Being unavailable at the registered address.
  • If the submitted documents are incorrect.
  • Ill behaviour with the verification officer.

❌Incorrect Documents for Minor's Passport

  • If parents' (mother and father) passports are not valid or have expired.
  • Mismatch in parents' names between the child's Aadhaar card and birth certificate.
  • Minor's photo has the wrong background or incorrect size.
  • In case of a single parent, not sharing the divorce or spouse's death certificate.
  • Not sharing child custody documents.
  • Not providing the parental consent form, Annexure D or C.

❌Arriving Late for Passport Office Appointment

  • You may miss your slot if you don't turn up on time.
  • Missing an appointment may require rescheduling.

✅ Important Points to Keep in Mind While Applying for a Passport

  • Ensure all information shared is correct.
  • All documents must have the same date of birth, name, and address.
