How to apply for a senior citizen passport and what are the required documents?
Special Provisions for Senior Citizens' Passport
- Senior Citizens can submit a passport application online through the Passport Seva Portal.
- There are no major provisions specifically for senior citizens, except for relaxation in the application fees, i.e. Rs 1,350/- and certain documents.
- In the absence of a 10th certificate, their passport is still issued under the Non-ECR category.
- For address proof, they can submit an Aadhaar Card or Voter ID Card, while for proof of birth, they can submit a PAN Card and a Birth Certificate.
- In the absence of a marriage certificate, they must Annexure 'J' form.
Passport Application Process for Senior Citizens
- Online Apply
- Open the Passport Seva Portal.
- Register if not a registered user.
- Log in with your details.
- Fill the Application Form
- Choose whether to apply for a fresh passport or a passport renewal.
- Fill out the personal details (name, address, DOB, etc.)
- Enter family and emergency contact number.
- Upload the required documents and submit them.
- Pay the fees
- Pay the passport fee online through Net Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card, or UPI.
- Choose the nearest PSK/POPSK from the list and book an appointment.
- Visit the PSK/POPSK on the scheduled date with original documents.
- PSK/POPSK will verify your documents and collect the biometric data
- After this, police verification will be conducted.
- If the police verification is positive, the passport is issued to the applicants and sent to their address through speed post.

- Other Govt. ID Proof.

- Utility Bills (Electricity/ Water)
- Rent Agreement.
- Bank Passbook
- PAVC Aadhaar Card (with current address)
- Proof of Birth
- PAN Card/ Birth Certificate.
- If Married
- Marriage certificate or, in its absence, Annexure 'J' form.
- Academic Certificate (if available)

For applicants above 50 years of age, the passport is always issued under the Non-ECR Category.

Validity of Senior Citizens' Passport
The Validity of a senior citizen's passport is 10 years, which is similar to other regular passports.
Processing Time
- Normal Category: 15-25 days
- Tatkaal Category: 10-15 days
Note*
- Senior Citizens also go through the same police verification as applicable for other applicants.
- No Relaxation is available exclusively for senior citizens.
