How many years of address record does the police check during passport verification?

During passport police verification, the police usually check your address record for the last 3 to 5 years. The Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) also verifies whether you have been residing at the current address for the last three years or not.

If the applicant's current and permanent address is different, and has been residing at the current address for past one year: -

  • If the applicant's current and permanent addresses are different, the police generally complete the verification process at the current address.
  • For current address proof, you may be asked to provide documents such as a utility bill (electricity, water, phone), a rent agreement, or a bank statement.
  • However, if the applicant has recently relocated to the current address, the police usually conduct verification at both the current and permanent address. In such cases, the police send the verification request to the police of your permanent address.

If the applicant's address changes every year

  • If you change your address every year, the verification process may also be conducted at your birthplace or permanent address.
