Ministry of External Affairs started Passport Seva Project with an objective to modernize the passport issuance process in India. Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) is an office under MEA which are responsible to accept and process passport applications in India.
What is Passport Seva Kendra?
- Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) is the offices which are operational under Ministry of External Affairs, Indian Government.
- PSK's is a service platform which provides a facility to people of India to submit their applications to make a Passport.
- Receiving of Passport Applications and other services applications, Scheduling an Appointment, Documentation and Verification of Biometric Data these all are the major functions perform by Passport Seva Kendra's.
- At present there are three type of Passport Seva Kendra are available through which an applicant can submit their passport application which are as follows :-
- Regular Passport Seva Kendra :- Can Handle Passport Applications in Large Volume and Located in major towns and cities.
- Post Office Passport Seva Kendra :- These PSKs are situated in Post Offices and are less in numbers. These POPSKs provides facility of making a passport in rural area and smaller towns.
- Mobile Vans :- New Initiative to serve passport services in smaller and inaccessible areas. Currently very less in numbers.
- Passport Seva Kendra's are directly operating under Regional Passport Offices (RPO).
- There are currently 37 Regional Passport Offices (RPOs) in country in which multiple Passport Seva Kendra's and Post Office Passport Seva Kendra's are operational and provide different type of services regarding passport.
- Following are the services which can be availed at Passport Seva Kendra's and Post Office Passport Seva Kendra's :-
- Ordinary Passport. (For Normal People)
- Diplomatic or Official Passport.
- Police Clearance Certificate. (PCC)
- Identity Certificate.
- Surrender Certificate.
- Background Verification for GEP. (Global Entry Program)
- LOC Permit.
- Some of the above mentioned services is not provided by Post Office Passport Seva Kendra or Mini Van PSK.

- Passport Seva Kendra is the front line platform of Ministry of External Affairs which plays very important role in delivering passport related services in India.
- It handles multiple services related to passport from accepting applications to submitting it for police verification.

- Passport Seva Kendra's and Post Office Passport Seva Kendra's are located across India in every major cities and towns.
- Every PSK and POPSK is operated under Regional Passport Area (RPO of that Area)
- Currently there are 37 Regional Passport Office (RPO) in India under which there are multple Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) and Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) are operational.
- Applicant will have to choose their areas RPO and schedule their passport appointment accordingly in PSK or POPSK.
