Process To Close an Old Passport File

  • If your current passport application file was put on hold at the PSK due to missing documents, or rejected for any other reason, you must first close the old before submitting a new application form.
  • A passport application file cannot be closed online. For this, you have to proceed with the traditional offline process.
  • Visit the Regional Passport Office (RPO).
  • Its appointment can be booked online through Passport Seva Portal.
  • Schedule an appointment (from the available date) for the application you wish to close.
  • On the appointment day, after completing the formalities, you will be given a closure letter.
  • Once you receive the closure letter, you can apply for a new passport by filling out a fresh passport application form.

Process to fill a new Passport Application Form

  • Visit the Passport Seva Portal.
  • Login, if you are a registered user.
  • New users must first register to create an account.
  • Choose Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport.
  • Fill in your personal and your family details.
  • Pay the fee online.
  • After payment, book an appointment at the nearest PSK/POPSK.
  • Visit PSK/POPSK on the scheduled date, carrying all required documents.
  • Officials at the centre will complete your biometric data collection and documents verification.
  • During passport issuance or renewal, you have to go through the Police Verification process.
  • Upon successful police verification, your passport will be issued and delivered to your address through speed post.
  • Application under the normal category usually takes time between 15-25 days.

  • Identity proof and address proof (Voter ID, Aadhaar Card, Driving License, etc.)
  • PAN Card or Birth Certificate (for birth date proof)
  • 10th Certificate (if available)
  • Marriage Certificate (if applicable)
  • Annexure 'J' form in absence of married certificate.
