A damaged passport, even if the damage is minor, can cause issues while travelling. If your passport is damaged, for example, if it is torn or has ink or other stains, it will be considered damaged. In such instances, you must apply for a new passport under the 'Reissue' category, stating that your passport is damaged.
Steps to Reissue a Damaged Passport
- Open the Passport Seva Portal.
- Register and create an account (if you don't already have one)
- Fill out the passport application form under the 'Reissue' category.
- Pay the applicable fees and select the appointment date, time, and Passport Seva Kendra (PSK).
- On the appointment date, visit the PSK with all the documents.
- At the PSK, your documents will be verified.
- Your application will then be forwarded for police verification.
- Upon receiving clearance, the new passport will be dispatched to your address via speed post.
Note: A damaged passport reissue application cannot be submitted under the Tatkal scheme. You have to submit your application through the normal scheme.
The application fee for a valid but damaged passport is Rs 3,000, while the fee for an expired damaged passport is Rs 1,500.
