To reissue a lost passport, applicants must provide some additional documents.

Lost Passport

• If your passport is lost or stolen, you must apply for its reissue or renewal.
• First, the applicant must prepare an affidavit from the court and also file an FIR (First Information Report) at the police station where the passport was lost.
• Police will mention the GD Number (General Diary) number in the report; without this, the FIR is not considered valid for passport purposes.
• Passport renewal can be done online from the Passport Seva Portal.
   

ECR to Non-ECR Passport Renewal

• Passport holders who meet any of the below conditions are eligible to renew their passport from ECR to Non-ECR.
  • Those who have completed their 10th class and obtain a valid certificate.
  • Those who are residing abroad for three or more years (either consecutively or at different intervals) can also apply for renewal by filling out the ECNR Form.
  • Those who have filed ITR (Indian Income Tax Return) for the last three years or more, with an income of Rs 5 lakh or above.

To apply for a passport, applicants are not required to have any specific educational qualification. Both illiterate and less educated individuals can apply for a passport. However, there are some differences based on the education level:

• If your passport has expired, you can apply for its renewal.
• To do this, visit the official Passport Seva Website.
• Pay the Passport renewal application fee and schedule your appointment.
• On the day of your appointment, visit the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) with all the required documents.
• You can renew your passport under either the General or Tatkaal category.

Parents can also apply for their minor child's passport. For this, they must fulfil certain conditions as applicable to them. Below we have shared some key details about the minor passport.

Police Verification for Passport in India

• The police verification process for an Indian passport in India is an important process.
• During the process, local police visit the applicant's given address to verify their identity, address, and background, and also to check for any criminal records.
• The Police also confirms whether the person is alive or dead, or someone else is trying to obtain a passport fraudulently.

LIU (Local Intelligence Unit) Police

• Each district in a state has its police department, which consists of various units to handle different responsibilities. One of these is the Intelligence Department, which is popularly known as the LIU.
• LIU stands for Local Intelligence Unit Police, which functions as the intelligence wing of the police department.
• The LIU Police operated under the supervision of SP or DSP level officer level rank officer, who is in charge of the unit.

Emergency Certificate (EC)

• An Emergency Certificate (EC) is a travel document issued when an Indian national's passport is lost, stolen, damaged, or when they are being deported. This document is mainly issued only for return to India under special circumstances.
• An Emergency Certificate (EC) is issued by the Indian Consulate.
• Indians working in Indian or other MNCs abroad can also obtain this Emergency Certificate (EC) from the Indian Embassy in case of an emergency.

Regional Passport Office (RPO)

• RPO in Passport is a government office that handles all passport related work for the citizens of a specific region.
• This office solves all types of passport related problems or complaints and resolves the problems and complaints of the citizens from time to time.
• They are responsible for functions like issuing passports, renewing existing passports, police verification and checking personal details.

Passports are made in two categories

E-passport

E-passport is also made in the same way as a normal passport. The application process is basically the same as before, no changes have been made in it.
