Procedure to Obtain a Minor’s Passport

Parents can also apply for their minor child's passport. For this, they must fulfil certain conditions as applicable to them. Below we have shared some key details about the minor passport.

Some conditions for issuing a Minor Passport

• For Minor Applicants, proof of current address in the name of the parents can be submitted.
• If parents hold the passport, they must present the same in the original, as well as a copy of it.
• Minor applicants' documents can be attested by the parents.
• A minor applicant is eligible for a Non-ECR passport until they turn 18 years of age.
• Minors can only be issued a passport with 36 pages.
• A passport issued to a minor is valid for up to 5 years or until they turn 18.
• Minors between 15 and 18 years can get a passport with a validity of up to 10 years.

Procedure to obtain a minor's Passport

• To obtain a passport for minors, applicants need to fill out an online application form on the Passport Seva Portal.
• Along with other documents, they must share the child's Aadhaar Card, Birth Certificate, and both parents' passports (if available).
• After completing the Passport application form, applicants can schedule an appointment.
• On the appointment day, both mother and father must be present with the child's Aadhaar Card, Birth Certificate, and a declaration form as specified in Annexure D.
• If one of the parents is unable to attend the appointment, the parent who is present must submit declarations as per Annexure C and Annexure D.

Note: For Tatkal Application, applicants need to pay an additional amount of Rs 2,000/-.

Documents required for Minor Passport

• Minor passport applicants must carry the following documents: -
  • Birth Certificate.
  • Aadhaar Card.
  • Parents' Passport Copy (If Any)
  • Passport Size photograph (4.5x3.5 cm) with white background (for minors 4 years or below)
  • Annexure D
  • Annexure C (if only one parent is available)
  • Both Mother's and Father's passports are required for Tatkal Application.
  • Applicants' custody documents issued by the court (if mother and father are separated or divorced)

Minor Passport Application (If Parents are divorced)

• If the divorce case is pending in the court, either of the parents can apply for the passport if he/she has obtained permission from the court. In such cases, the consent of the other parents is not required, or they can submit Annexure C with the applicable reason.
• If a divorce case is pending and any of the parents with the child is already working or staying abroad, the child requires a passport. For this, the concerned parents need to grant permission or submit a notice issued by the court.

Single Parents' minor passport application

• A single parent who holds the custody of the child must provide the order issued by the court, including Annexure 'C'.
• Parents who are married but separated, the name of the mother/father must be furnished by the single parents who hold the custody of the child, irrespective of their marriage status, such as divorced, divorced pending, separated or deserted.
