NRIS (Non-Resident Indians) living abroad for work, education or other purposes and still an Indian Citizen can apply for an Indian Passport. Such NRIs must possess a valid passport for International Travel or other purposes.

Ques 1: What documents should NRIs submit to apply for a passport?

Ans: To apply for a passport, NRIs must submit proof of Indian citizenship, a residence certificate, a birth certificate, and a 10th class certificate.

Ques 2: Can an OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) cardholder apply for an Indian passport?

Ans: Yes, but they must first give up their foreign citizenship. After obtaining Indian citizenship, they can apply for a passport by submitting the required documents.

Ques 3: Can I apply for a passport while residing abroad?

Ans: Yes. Applicants can submit their passport application through the nearest Indian Embassy or Consulate.

Ques 4: While residing abroad, can I apply for my passport renewal?

Ans: Yes, in foreign countries, the passport renewal can be done through the Indian Embassy or Consulate.

Ques 5: Can NRIs use Tatkal services for passport applications?

Ans: No, NRIs cannot use the Tatkal service for passport applications; for this, they must apply under the normal scheme.
