If the Emergency Certificate (EC) is Lost Abroad

• If you lose your Emergency Certificate (EC) while abroad, you must first report it to the nearest police station.
• After filing the police report, contact the nearest Indian Embassy or Consulate in the country where you are currently residing.
• Apply for an EC Replacement.
• For EC replacement, you must submit a copy of the lost EC.
• If a copy is unavailable, obtain its details from the Embassy or consulate and then apply for a new one.

• Yes, if you hold a diplomatic passport, you can still apply for a normal (general) passport.
• If you are currently using a diplomatic passport and are employed in government services, you are eligible to apply for a general passport.
• Even if you previously held a diplomatic passport but are no longer employed in any government services or your services have ended, you can still apply for a general passport.

RPO Appointment Book

If, for any reason, your passport application is put on hold at the RPO (Regional Passport Office), or if your police verification report is negative, or if for any other reason RPO holds your file, you need to visit RPO by taking an RPO Enquiry appointment to resolve the issue. RPO Enquiry appointment can be booked online, as offline bookings are not allowed.

📝 Feedback/Grievance Form

• This form is generally filled out online on the Passport Seva Portal, where you can submit complaints, suggestions, or provide feedback related to passport services.
• The primary objective of this form is to allow applicants to share their complaints or feedback directly with the Passport office and receive a resolution.
• If you do not get a solution through the Passport Helpline Number, RPO Helpline, or Email, you can use this form.

Special Provisions for Senior Citizens' Passport

• Senior Citizens can submit a passport application online through the Passport Seva Portal.
• There are no major provisions specifically for senior citizens, except for relaxation in the application fees, i.e. Rs 1,350/- and certain documents.
• In the absence of a 10th certificate, their passport is still issued under the Non-ECR category.

Process To Close an Old Passport File

• If your current passport application file was put on hold at the PSK due to missing documents, or rejected for any other reason, you must first close the old before submitting a new application form.
• A passport application file cannot be closed online. For this, you have to proceed with the traditional offline process.
• Visit the Regional Passport Office (RPO).

📘Returning to India using an Emergency Certificate (EC)

• An EC (Emergency Certificate) is generally issued to Indian Citizens who wants to return to India when their passport is lost or stolen.
• It is valid only for returning to India and cannot be used for International travel like a regular passport.
• After arriving in India, you must apply for a passport renewal, and for this you have to apply online through Passport Seva Portal.

Converting a Tatkal Application into a Normal Application

• If you have submitted a passport application under the Tatkal category, it cannot be directly converted into a normal passport application.
• For this, you must first visit the Passport Seva Kendra on the scheduled date. If on that day, your application is not processed due to an incomplete document or another issue, you can book a new appointment under the Tatkaal category.

If Incorrect Information Is Printed on Your Passport

• First, identify the incorrect information: -
  • Error in Name
  • Birthplace or Date of Birth
  • Marital Status
  • Change in Gender
  • Address or other details
• If any information printed on your passport is incorrect, you must apply for a passport renewal. Before applying for renewal, ensure that the incorrect details printed on your passport are not mentioned in any of your supporting documents.

Additional Documents for Minor Children

Yes, an Indian minor below 18 years of age must submit the following additional documents when applying for a passport.

• Adult applicants are not required to bring a passport-sized photograph when visiting a Passport Seva Kendra for a passport application.
• At the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK/POSK), TCS staff will capture the applicant's photograph live and upload it to the system.
