Reason for filling Emergency Number in the Passport Form

  • The emergency contact number in the passport form is filled for your safety and that of your family.
  • Its prime objective is to ensure that, in case of an emergency, Passport Officials or the Ministry of External Affairs may reach you immediately.

Its usage

  • To contact in emergency cases: -
    • During international travel, if you face any emergency (like Medical, Accident, or legal issue), the Indian Embassy or Consulate can use the shared emergency contact number.
  • During Passport Verification or application-related
    • If your primary number is not reachable or out of service during police verification, then the authority can contact you through this number.
